How to Calculate GST in India (With Examples)
GST in India is calculated based on the applicable rate (5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%). Below are practical examples for both GST Exclusive and GST Inclusive calculations.
Example 1: 18% GST on ₹10,000 (Exclusive)
GST = 10,000 × 18% = ₹1,800
Final Price = ₹11,800
Example 2: 12% GST on ₹5,000 (Inclusive)
Base Price = 5,000 / 1.12 = ₹4,464
GST = ₹536
How do you remove GST from a total amount?
Divide the total amount by (1 + GST rate). For example, if ₹1,180 includes 18% GST: Base price = 1180 / 1.18 = ₹1,000.
How much is GST on ₹1,000 at 18%?
GST on ₹1,000 at 18% is ₹180. Final amount becomes ₹1,180.
Is GST calculated before or after discount?
GST is calculated on the discounted price. If a discount is applied, GST is applied after reducing the discount amount.
